Belgica Obscura (PRESENTATION)

A Flemish director recently stated that horror was not ours. Harry Kümel, Jonas Govaerts, James Desert and many others would gladly dare to disagree. On Facebook, Belgica Obscura managed to collect nearly 200 Belgian horror (co)productions, going from big budget pictures, student films, to inevitable homemade splatter and amateur flicks. Vampires, psychopaths, aliens, demons, zombies, even cardboard prehistoric creatures and even more! You name it, we have it. That's why the directors and me are bringing you a small selection of short films to show you the diversity of what Belgica Obscura stands for.

Malpertuis is a labyrinth where characters issued from the Greek mythology are made prisoners by Cassavius. He manages to keep them (as well as his nephew and niece) as prisoners even after his death, through a binding testament. As the nephew unravels the mystery, we find out he cannot escape the house because Malpertuis is far more significant than we were led to believe. A young sailor finds himself trapped in the labyrinthine mansion of his occultist uncle, along with a number of eccentric and mysterious relatives who all seem to be harbouring a dark secret. Father John (Guy Bleyaert), an orphan and ex-ranger who lost his best friend during Operation Fury in Grenada steps into a church and meets a Cardinal of the Roman Church. He convinces John to become a priest and sends him to study the Bible. 25 years later, John is a priest in a quiet town and gets a visit of his superior bishop. Father John is invited to the board of a extreme Catholic cult who believes that it is God's will to rid Earth of all human evil was given to them as a mission.
